PlayStation Factory Seals Guide

PlayStation Factory Seals Guide

Over the years, PlayStation has used several official methods to seal their products. While minor variations can occur due to the nature of plastic and manufacturing, all genuine factory seals are consistent, neat, and of good overall quality.

1. Classic Y-Fold

  • Plastic wrap folds into a distinct “Y” shape at the top and bottom.
  • Found on most standard PlayStation releases.

2. Shrink Wrap

  • Tight plastic film applied with heat, conforming closely to the case.
  • Common for later releases, special editions or larger boxes.

3. Y-Fold with Branded Tear Strip

  • Traditional Y-fold combined with a PlayStation-branded tear strip.
  • Strong indicator of authenticity.

4. Y-Fold with Unbranded Tear Strip

  • Same as above but without PlayStation branding.
  • Found on Steelbooks, special editions, reprints and certain variants.

5. NTSC Security Strip

  • Tamper-evident security label applied across the top edge of the case.
  • Found on NTSC PlayStation and PlayStation 2 releases.
  • Typically features PlayStation branding & game information and is broken when the game is opened.
  • Used alongside the factory seal as an additional authenticity measure.

6. Tape (Branded / Unbranded)

  • Seal across the opening edge of the box.
  • Often used on regional variants, consoles or larger items.

7. Circular Sticker (Plastic or Paper)

  • Small round sticker sealing the opening flap.
  • Common on controllers, collector editions and consoles.

8. Blister Box

  • Rigid plastic shell primarily used for accessories and hardware.
