How to Spot Resealed Games

The cellophane wrapper on genuine, factory-sealed games is applied using automated machinery. Because of this, the folds at the top and bottom of the case are extremely neat, tight, and symmetrical.

These folds typically form a clear “Y” shape (and in some cases can resemble an “X”), which is a strong indicator of an authentic seal.

On resealed games, these folds are often messy, uneven, scrunched up, or slightly melted due to manual heat sealing.

Security Seal / Tear-strip / Factory Seal Indicators

Many genuine physical games across platforms such as Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo use some form of factory security seal, tear-strip, or branded sticker to confirm authenticity and that the product has not been opened.

One of the most obvious signs that a game has been resealed is when this security seal or strip is missing entirely.

If the seal is present, it should be carefully inspected. It should sit flat, smooth, and evenly applied, with no lifting, bubbling, dirt, or debris trapped underneath any edges or corners.

Resealed copies often show clear signs of tampering. This can include lifted edges, wrinkles, repositioning marks, or small areas where the adhesive has been disturbed.

Cellophane Quality

Resealed games often use thicker, looser plastic that feels softer and quieter when handled.

Genuine factory seals use thinner, tighter wrap that feels crisp and produces a noticeable crinkling sound.

This difference in sound and texture is one of the easiest ways to identify a reseal.

Wear and Tear

Authentic sealed games should be in immaculate condition with no scratches, grime, or edge wear under the cellophane.

Resealed copies often show signs of previous handling, especially around edges or protruding cover areas.
